This project is a reimagining of a penthouse apartment in a converted warehouse in New York. Working closely with the owner, the design reflects a light-handed approach contrasting with the heavy timber beams and columns to create a home both serene and highly functional for a family and everyday living.

Folded steel plates define the stair, capturing and carving light through the floors while housing a playful under-the-stair hideout. A variety of material textures works within the restrained and elemental color palette. Built-in casework is inset into thickened walls that hide structure, providing a quiet container for the art, light, and family activities.
The often awkward space under the stair becomes a hideaway for reading and playing.
Inset wood shelving anchors the living room. Interior furnishings and lighting by the owner. Daylight animates the walls and space throughout the day.
Deep shelving is inset into the thickened fireplace wall.
